Clearhead is an app about drinking. That makes this page more important than most, so it is written plainly and it describes what the software actually does.

What stays on your phone

Every drink you log, the days and times you told us are hard, the patterns the app works out from them, your streaks, your notes, and any photograph you attach are stored in a database on your device. They are not uploaded, not backed up to us, and not readable by us. There is no account to create and no email address required to use the app.

What our server receives

If you turn notifications on, the app registers with our server so that a message can reach you even when the app has not been opened. That registration contains a random identifier for your installation, a push token from Apple, your time zone, your app version, and your device language.

The app then uploads the next couple of days of messages: for each one, the exact words and the minute to send it. That is all. The reasoning that produced those messages ran on your phone. Our server has never received a drink, a count, a streak, or a reason — and cannot reconstruct them from what it holds.

Sent messages are deleted from our server after seven days. Nothing links your installation identifier to your name, your email, or your Apple ID.

Notifications are written to be unreadable to others

The wording of every message is deliberately neutral, so that someone glancing at your lock screen learns nothing about why the app is writing to you. The app can also be locked with Face ID.

The mailing list

If you enter your email address on this website, we store that address and a confirmation token so we can email you once when the app is released. Confirmation is handled by Resend. This list is entirely separate from the app: nothing joins your email address to an installation, and signing up tells us nothing about your drinking. Every email includes a way to leave.

Analytics

There is no third-party analytics SDK in the app. No advertising identifier is collected, and nothing is sold or shared with data brokers.

Having it forgotten

Turning notifications off in Settings deletes your queued messages. Choosing to be forgotten deletes your device row and everything attached to it — a real delete, not a flag. Deleting the app removes everything held on your phone. If you would like anything else removed, write to hello@useclearhead.com.

Children

Clearhead is not intended for anyone under 18 and is rated accordingly.

Not medical care

Clearhead is a self-tracking tool. It does not diagnose, treat, or provide medical advice, and it is not a substitute for professional help. Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous and in some cases requires medical supervision — if you are dependent on alcohol, please speak to a doctor before stopping. The app includes a list of support services and will never discourage you from using them.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we hold, the app will say so in plain language rather than quietly updating the date on this page.
